You can upload images in two different ways. Either you can make them available centrally via the Image Library, so that your colleagues can use them when needed, or you can upload them directly at the point where you need them in the editor.
Loading an image centrally into the Image Library
To make an image available centrally via the Image Library, click on Images in the Library menu.
There you will get an overview of the uploaded images. Click on the Add Images button in the header of the page to add a new image.
You now have two options: By default you can upload one or more images via drag and drop or via the upload dialog. Alternatively you can click External and import images from an external photo database into your Image Library.
Once the images are uploaded, you can edit them. We recommend that you always edit all images so that your colleagues can already work with proper images and do not have to do the cropping themselves. You can do this by clicking on Edit Images. If you don't have time to do this, you can click on Save for later or cancel the whole upload by clicking on Cancel. So click on Edit Images to finish editing your images.
For images it is mandatory to fill in the copyright field by default. If you upload multiple images with the same copyright, you can apply the copyright to all other images in the process by clicking Apply To All. Apply to All is applied to the Copyright, License, License URL and Tags. Title and Alt Text are logically not applied to the other images. The image license field also saves your input via your browser, so you don't have to type the same license every time in the future. The license URL will also be transferred. After that click on Save & Next to get to the cropping area.
In the cropping area you can now automatically crop the image. With the mouse you can move the cropping area or drag&drop the corners to reduce or enlarge the image. With a click on Apply Crop to All Sizes you can also apply the focus point of the cropping (the blue plus in the middle) to all other image formats. If you still don't like a crop, click on the preview on the right and adjust the cropping for this format. You will see on the right side how the live preview is updated. With Save & Next you save your settings and go to the next image. Repeat this for all images until you have worked through them and close the dialog after the last image by clicking on Save & Close. After that the overview of the Image Library will open again.
Images that you have processed are then processed by our system, so that cropping and some other operations are performed. You can see this by the orange indicator. During the time an image is being processed, you cannot apply the new croppings, for example. They will also not be directly visible in the editor. As soon as the processing is over, you will see a green check mark. Then the editor will be updated if you have been waiting for processing.
Upload image via editor
To upload an image via the editor, create your content as usual, for example a new post. To add an image or figure, click Add as usual and select either Image or Figure. You will now find a new Add Image button in all places where you can upload an image.
This gives you three options to add an image to your content: Either use an existing image from the image gallery, upload a new image or import images from an external database.
To upload a new image, click Upload. Now you can select an image you want to upload via Drag & Drop or the File Explorer of your operating system. Please note that in most cases you can only upload one image at a time within the editor, as it is already intended for use in a specific context.
As with the Image Library upload, add the meta data and crop the image if necessary.
By default, the Image and Figure components use the original image after upload. By the way, as long as the orange indicator is displayed on the image preview, it means that the image is still being processed. Especially changes to cropping will only be visible after successful processing.
If you want to use one of the cropped images instead, you can do so via the Aspect Ratio field on the components that support it:
Images uploaded directly via the editor are also made available in the Image Library for all other users to use for other content in the future. Therefore, it is advisable to carefully perform the metadata and cropping directly.
